Counselling Services

Counselling for girls aged 10 – 25. Focused on supporting girls as they transition from children to women and for all the life that happens in between.
Get support from a qualified professional for a range of topics such as:

BODY IMAGE CONCERNS:

One of the main priorities we have is helping to improve the clients body image and work on acceptance of the body's natural shape and size, knowing that it will change throughout their life. If Body Love seems a bit of a stretch, try Body Neutrality, where we know that we all have bodies that we need to look after, but we do not allow how our body looks or our opinions of our bodies to prevent us from doing anything we want or need to do. Sessions can include learning and utilizing life-long recovery skills such as journaling and affirmations. There can also be support provided for family or significant others to enable them to be involved in the journey.

SELF-ESTEEM:

Lack of self-worth, self-love and self-respect can show itself in many ways. If you do not like yourself, you are not going to look after yourself. You are not going to treat yourself with the love, care, respect and compassion that you deserve. Our counselling services aim to challenge those beliefs held about the self and implement new strategies to overcome self-sabotage or self-punishing behaviours. It is impossible to hate or punish yourself into a 'better' version of you. Any decisions in regards to change need to be made from a place of genuine self-care, not fear or anger or hatred. You deserve to feel good about yourself, to know that you have value and worth just as you are, right in this moment.

EATING DISORDERS & DISORDERED EATING:

The truth is that Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating have very little to do with food, exercise or even our bodies. They are Mental Health Disorders and have deep underlying roots. For many struggling with these issues, it is due to a serious lack of self-love, self-respect and self-worth. We understand this and make it a priority to examine and deal with the root cause of the issue not just the behaviours themselves. Eating Disorders are often shapeshifters and people can move from one to another during treatment and throughout their lives. If the lack of self-worth isn't challenged and overcome, people often find other ways to harm, disrespect and sabotage themselves. We are aware of this and offer treatment accordingly.  Whispers of Wellness does not believe in weighing clients, however our services are not suitable for someone with a BMI of 17.5 or below as more intense treatment and medical support is normally required. It is recommended to commit to at least ten sessions after the initial consultation if you are wanting to seek treatment for an eating disorder or disordered eating behaviours.

LOSS OF IDENTITY:

This can be a very scary time. Sometimes you may still feel like a child, or feel that you still get treated like one at least. Other times you might feel so grown up. The transition from child to adult is a big one and often lasts a lot longer than we expect it to. You may be trying to figure out who you are, or who you might want to be. You may feel that you have lost who you are or who you used to be and it can be difficult to navigate all the different versions of who we feel we are "supposed" to be. With support, openness and understanding we can guide you through this time of transition and help you discover the "you", you really want to be.

CONFLICTS WITH FRIENDS:

Navigating friendships during this time can be tricky. Friendships can be full of love, support and good memories, but also full of jealousy, betrayal and gossip. It is never easy falling out with a friend or trying to make new friends, especially when you may still be discovering who you are or what you value. Sometimes friendships end, for forever or just for a little while. Sometimes the ending of a friendship is good and signifies the start of a new chapter, but sometimes the ending of a friendship hits you hard and leaves you filled with regret. Sometimes just having someone to talk to can help.

FAMILY TENSION:

Families go through many changes and growths. Some changes are good, others not so much. Tension between family members or tension within you can build up as a result. Counselling sessions give you the opportunity to process, understand and handle your family situation, whatever it may be.

SCHOOL OR CAREER STRESS:

Counselling can help you navigate the many stresses of school or work by providing you with a place to speak and feel freely without fear of repercussion or reprimand. Choosing or changing your career can be intimidating but with unbiased guidance and support we can help you make the right choice for you.

ANXIETY:

Everyone feels anxious sometimes. But sometimes the feelings don't go away or they feel overwhelming. You might struggle with anxiety around a certain thing, like taking an exam, or you might feel anxious all through the day. Counselling can help you learn to manage or to reduce these feelings of anxiety.

Appointments can be held in person at our Richlands location or via Skype.
